Dede Ridgeway- Owner of “All About Palm Fronds”, started painting in 1987 as an assistant to toll painter Linda Ferguson, who was a toll painter. Dede became a nurse and did not pick up a paint brush again until 2023, when she was presented with a palm boot and asked to paint something on it, which was a wild boar. Dede’s motivation is wildlife and the environment. She brings her creations to life using 3-d sculpturing and acrylics to Palm boots and other wood type surfaces. She has been a part of Rainbow Springs Art Gallery in Dunnellon, Fl. and Franklin Anderson Gallery in Crystal River, Fl, and has enjoyed sharing her knowledge of this craft with students. Dede lives in Homosassa, Florida with her husband Dann and two cats, Milo and Stinkie.
What are Palm boots and how do you incorporate Apoxie Sculpt?
A palm boot is what I use and comes from palm trees. The frond is the leafy part of the frond but I use the boot which connects the frond to the tree. I use mostly queen palm boots but have used ribbon palms as they make great tiny santas at christmas time. I use Apoxie Sculpt to enhance 3-d images. What you see in the pictures does not do the justice the pieces deserve when seen in real life. I also have been using Apoxie Sculpt on my palm boots that need repair. It is waterproof, flexible and I can create texture with it as well.
