Featured Artist: Sharon Mackey, SMACK ART

“These are large pieces—between 30″ and 47″ which is why Apoxie Sculpt is the perfect material.”

Sharon Mackey is a multi‑media, self‑taught artist whose work explores the fluid border between memory and marine myth. Although she now lives in Colorado, Sharon’s earliest and strongest influences are the water and shoreline play of her childhood. Those watery memories surface in an imaginative body of work populated by quirky sea creatures, fantasy fish and recurring octopusses — creatures that serve as both companions and allegories for curiosity, adaptability and transformation.

A few years ago Sharon discovered Aves sculpting and finishing products, a discovery that expanded her material vocabulary. She uses a combination of Aves products, Apoxie Sculpt, Apoxie Clay and Apoxie Paste and combines with found metal, reclaimed hardware, ceramic elements, glass and layered paint to build original pieces. Her sculptures range from small, lamp‑based and tabletop figures to dramatic wall-hung constructions, each piece balancing fine detail with a playful sense of narrative.

Sharon’s work is informed by a love of texture, engineering improvisation and a desire to invite viewers into stories of the deep — sometimes charming, sometimes uncanny, always tactile. She accepts commissions and collaborations. Contact sm********@***il.com
